Take Action Now!; Shoreline Walking Tours this Weekend

Take Action Now!

The Public Comment Period is only open through April 24, 2024. This is our brief open window to submit the information the city will consider in its decisions. It is up to us, and together, we will make the difference!

Please:

  • Donate:  Donations are urgently needed NOW. Thanks to many generous donors, we are nearing the $15,000 goal. If you can, please help fund the technical experts and land use attorney we need to successfully counter the applicant’s claims about the proposed subdivision project. Make a tax-deductible donation to Protect Mud Bay Cliffs using the “Donate” button on our website at:  https://mudbaycliffs.org/join-in

    • If you prefer to donate via paper check, the information to mail a check is below the “Donate” button

  • Sign the Petition, here:  https://mudbaycliffs.org/petition – with over 700 signatures already, it is growing daily!

  • Write a Letter! Letters and emails matter; to have impact in this city process, ours need to refer to issues with regulations. See an example letter to the city here (you can copy-and-paste it):  https://mudbaycliffs.org/updates/example-letter-public-comment

Shoreline Walking Tours of Mud Bay Cliffs this Saturday & Sunday

Come see what we are fighting for: Bellingham's magical Mud Bay Cliffs, including the public shoreline, the woodlands, and some of the wildlife, too. Three more of these popular walks are set for April. Our easy, informal walks along the shoreline at low tide are fun for the whole family.

Protect Mud Bay Cliffs (PMBC) will lead shoreline walking tours on:

  • Saturday 4/13,  2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

  • Sunday 4/14,  2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

  • Sunday 4/21,  11:00 AM – 12:30 PM

We’ll meet at the public access trailhead immediately past 220 Sea Pines Road; please gather on the sidewalk at the top of the paved stairs. Parking is on-street.

This is a straightforward walk at low tide: we will follow a paved pathway down to the shore, and the walk along the shore is on flat pebbled ground.  We suggest: wear a hat and/or sun screen, and wear clothes/ footwear which can get a bit wet and muddy.  Please note: we will not be going onto privately-owned property, so the tour will stay on the shoreline at low tide.

If you have questions, please call Wendy Larson at 360-778-9834.

We hope you can join us!

“A Muddy Future for Herons” – PMBC in the News

Have you read the recent article in The Planet Magazine that highlights our Protect Mud Bay Cliffs work?

https://www.theplanetmagazine.net/winter-24-clarity/a-muddy-future-for-herons.

Journalist David Remer and photographer Imogene Eagan did a terrific job capturing the look and feel of this Bellingham gem. The Planet Magazine is dedicated to environmental awareness and advocacy through responsible journalism, and is an entirely student-funded, written, edited, and published environmental publication out of Western Washington University.

Sign Up Now for City Updates on the Proposed Project

If you’ve yet to do so, please send an email to Bellingham Senior Planner Kathy Bell (KBell@cob.org) with this request:

"Please accept this email as my request to receive via email all notices regarding the Woods at Viewcrest applications."

Why do this? Reasons include:

  • The Planning Department has asked us to make these requests if we are interested in the proposed subdivision project.

  • The Planning Department and Hearing Examiner need to see a high level of public interest and concern about the proposed development on Mud Bay Cliffs.

Thank you for helping Protect Mud Bay Cliffs!
