We Need Your Help NOW!
Please help PMBC cross the finish line.
We Need Your Help, NOW!
We have entered the final stretch of our four-year-long race to protect Mud Bay. Despite the concerted efforts of Protect Mud Bay Cliffs (PMBC), other volunteer groups, and the community at large, the developers are moving forward with their disastrous proposal to build The Woods at Viewcrest, a huge subdivision situated along the steep and fragile cliffs overlooking North Chuckanut Bay (Mud Bay). Within the next few weeks, the Bellingham Hearing Examiner will decide the scope and fate of this project. To be successful, we must keep our attorneys in the race as we enter this final stage of the planning process.
Since 2021, PMBC’s volunteers have been working tirelessly with lawyers, regulatory agencies, researchers and ecological experts to inform city planners of numerous errors, misstatements and erroneous assumptions made by the property developers and their consultants. Yet the City has refused to require a formal environmental review of the project. PMBC had no choice but to file a formal legal appeal to reverse the City’s decision.
PMBC supports responsible development. However, given the magnitude of this project — with up to 228 housing units wedged into 38 steep and elevated acres along Mud Bay — all we are asking for is that an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) be completed prior to approval of the proposed project.
Most recently, the well-funded developers have been using their financial leverage to file numerous legal briefs that have had the effect of draining PMBC’s funds. Their briefs require legal responses, which cost money, to ensure PMBC secures the opportunity to present our case before the Hearing Examiner.
Therefore, we need to ask you once again to help us cross the finish line as we work to protect Mud Bay and its forested upland cliffs. We cannot move forward with our legal appeal without your financial help.
