Public Comment Period Begins – Sign the Petition, Write Letters!

Public Comment Deadline is Wednesday, April 24

The city has issued a Notice of Application and has initiated a 30-day public comment period. Senior Planner Kathy Bell wrote in an email:  “The City has issued a Notice of Application for this project which establishes a public comment period through April 24, 2024. This notice and additional information related to the project are available on The Woods at Viewcrest webpage.”

PLEASE SIGN THE PMBC PETITION, SEND A LETTER, PLACE A SIGN IN YOUR YARD

Take Action Now! It is vital for all of us to sign the PMBC Petition and send letters and emails to the planning department describing our concerns about the proposed development.

  1. Sign the Petition here: https://mudbaycliffs.org/petition

  2. A Letter example is available here: https://mudbaycliffs.org/updates/example-letter-public-comment

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT

It is crucial we convince the Planning Department that this project is likely to impose Significant Adverse Environmental Impacts on this Bellingham gem, and the fragile, treasured ecosystems surrounding it. Our objections are based on compliance with laws and regulations for what is required for a project such as this. If we are successful, city decision-makers will have what they need to require an objective, independent, third-party Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) be prepared.

This EIS is necessary to ensure Bellingham’s planners have a comprehensive and honest evaluation of the harms this project can be expected to have on both the natural and built environment — and the adverse impacts on public safety — before making any decisions about development at this location.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THE CITY HEARS FROM YOU

The Public Comment period has begun!  Hearing from all of us is vital to convince the city’s decision-makers that an EIS is necessary.

Please take the time now to sign the Petition, write letters and emails, and ask others to do the same.

We will keep you posted as the process advances toward the public Hearing before the Hearing Examiner – an important meeting for as many of us to take part in as possible.

Please Donate — Urgent Appeal

If you’re able, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to the Protect Mud Bay Cliffs Fund using the “Donate” button on our website at:

https://mudbaycliffs.org/join-in

Donations of any size are urgently needed now. PMBC will incur significant legal and professional fees to successfully establish the case that an EIS is needed — and to minimize the adverse environmental impacts this project would otherwise impose.

If you prefer to donate via check, the information for doing so is also at the above link to our website.

All donations are used solely to pursue our mission of protecting Mud Bay Cliffs, and all PMBC members volunteer their time freely.

DONOR ADVISED FUNDS AND EMPLOYER MATCH

For those who have donor advised funds, Responsible Development is a qualified Public Charity (PC) under Section 501(c)(3) and is set up to receive both donor advised contributions and matching contributions from employers. Responsible Development’s Employer Identification Number (EIN) is 14-1944887. Protect Mud Bay Cliffs is a Responsible Development program.

If your employer matches charitable donations, please request that match. Benevity, a commonly used platform for companies matching charitable donations, already includes Responsible Development as one of the charities supported.

Thank you for helping Protect Mud Bay Cliffs!
